Gary has been a Healdsburg community member for over 58 years. He started his 28-year career with the Healdsburg Police Department in July of 1976, retiring from the force in June of 2004.

During Gary’s tenure on the City Council he has been involved every aspect of Healdsburg Government for example: 

  • The renovation of the Plaza Park
  • Creation of the Day Labor Center Office
  • Formed a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Committee
  • Annual Foss Creek Clean-up
  • Requested that the Council place the Urban Growth Boundary ordinance extension on the November 2012 ballot
  • Working with management, employee and community members to reduce city costs and balance the budget.

Councilmember Plass is an active member of his community having served on such boards as the Healdsburg Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the Graduation Celebration Committee and the Healdsburg Airport Commission prior to being elected to the Healdsburg City Council in 2004. Councilmember Plass is now serving his second term on the Healdsburg City Council and served as Mayor in 2007 and 2012. Councilmember Plass is a member of the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club and has served on the Kiwanis Board of Directors. Councilmember Plass is also the Vice President of the Carson Warner Memorial Skate Park Committee. During Councilmember Plass’ tenure as Chairman of the Northern California Power Agency, the Lodi Energy Center in Lodi California was completed. This 300-megawatt natural gas-fired combined-cycle plant and steam generator is producing the cleanest natural gas power in the State of California, if not the United States.
