Since moving here in 1993, Joe Naujokas (pronounced nah-YO-kiss) has grown to treasure Healdsburg's unique combination of creativity and forward thinking - its "head" - and small-town values - its "heart" - that together form this town's special soul. In true Healdsburg spirit he brings his own sense of careful thinking and compassion for others to his tenure on the City Council.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Joe is the proud descendent of Lithuanian immigrants. He attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service.
After graduation in 1991, Joe drove across the country to San Francisco, where his curiosity led him to discover the dual worlds of wine and the Internet. Joe moved to Healdsburg for the 1993 harvest to pursue both interests, but his career path eventually led him to software development. In his current role as Senior Technical Lead at the Petaluma-based e-commerce firm DEPlabs, he and his team of programmers help retailers around the country build online businesses that compete with the likes of Amazon.
Joe’s wife, Lauren Parnes, is the librarian at Healdsburg Junior High. His two sons, Sam and Judah, grew up in Healdsburg and attended local public schools starting with kindergarten at Westside School. Judah is currently attending Healdsburg High School and Sam is studying at Evergreen State College. Healdsburg has been kind to Joe’s family and he values the role of the community in raising and educating its youth.
Joe believes in smart government that enables its citizens to thrive. He believes that we are stronger as a community when we engage our collective minds to solve problems together. And he believes that true "small-town feel" has less to do with the physical aspect of a place than the dedication to creating a community where everyone feels welcome.
