Grove Street Neighborhood Plan Implementation Survey
The City of Healdsburg is seeking feedback on ways to improve transportation on Grove Street between Grant Street and Dry Creek Road for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving. This 0.7 mile section of Grove Street includes senior housing, single family dwellings, multifamily dwellings, affordable housing units, large and boutique hotels, a skate park, and businesses. This variety of land uses fill the corridor with users with different types of abilities and interests, including youth and seniors. The project as proposed will construct continuous curbs, gutters, and sidewalks to provide safe pedestrian access to all.
The Grove Street Neighborhood Plan was adopted by City Council in February 2000, but the project was not implemented. Recent development in the area has constructed some of recommended Grove Street improvements and the City is applying for grant funds to complete the work. Before beginning design, the City is seeking the community’s input on the Neighborhood Plan to ensure it aligns with the vision and needs of the residents.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED? As a part of the community engagement process, there will be a range of opportunities to offer feedback, including an interactive survey and a virtual community workshop.
Bi-Lingual Virtual Visioning Workshop February 16, 2022 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM https ://us06web.zoom.us/j/84661416098

Elementary School Tour of Award Winning Water Reclamation Facility
Last week the City hosted about 40 students from Healdsburg Elementary’s 5th grade class. The tour was prompted by a class project involving water and wastewater treatment within developing countries. The goal of the project was for students to see themselves as Civil Engineers and find ways to communicate the importance of a water treatment facilities in developing country. At the City’s treatment plant, students were able to see how to separate liquid mixtures, dry mixtures, and solutions to demonstrate the concepts of chemical reactions and creation of "new products". Pictured is City all-star, David Hambly providing excellent instruction on the operation and functions of the City’s water reclamation facility.
Badger Substation Reconstruction
This week the City achieve a milestone in the reconstruction of the Badger substation. With the new 60,000-Volt section of the substation complete, PG&E connected the backup feed to this new work. The new work and tie to PG&E’s transmission will allow the City flexibility in maintenance and help to avoid citywide outages. Earlier this month, the new work on the 12,000-volt portion of the substation was put into service. Remaining work includes micro-piles to prevent damage during earthquakes, yard-lighting, and erection of additional steel. These pictures show the station as of October 2021 and it’s current state this week.
Installation of Wayfinding Signs
With the recent completion of the Foss Creek Pathway Extension, wayfinding signs are currently being installed along the length of the Pathway and Plaza area to guide you on your walks and bike rides. Wayfinding signage is listed as a recommended project in the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. A wayfinding sign study was completed and approved by the City Council in February 2020 after extensive public outreach at community meetings, events, and a survey. Two sign designs were chosen for use, with a round design for signs located on streets, and a rectangular design to be used specifically along the Foss Creek Pathway. Accompanying destination plaques provide directional and distance information. We hope these signs will encourage residents and visitors alike to choose walking or biking as a pleasant and healthy alternative to driving. Sign installation was funded in part by a grant from the Healdsburg Tourism Improvement District.
Diverting Organic Material to Reduce Landfill Emissions
Did you know landfills are the third-largest source of methane in California, and that organic materials, like food scraps, eggshells, bones, leftovers, leaves, paper, etc. make up nearly half of what Californians dump in landfills? When organic materials such as food and yard materials end up in landfills, they decompose anaerobically (without oxygen) and produce greenhouse gases, namely methane. CA SB 1383, effective Jan. 1, 2022, is a statewide effort to divert these organic materials from reaching our landfill. You can help by composting your organic materials at home or by properly sorting and placing your organic materials in your green bin so these nutrient rich materials can be diverted to a composting facility versus our local landfill. By properly sorting and composting your organic materials we can all do our part to slow climate change!
