Railroad Construction Work to Temporarily Change Traffic Pattern at Roundabout
4-Way Stop Starting Feb. 26 for several weeks

HEALDSBURG, Calif., February 22, 2018 – Beginning Monday, February 26, contractors for the City of Healdsburg will begin the months’-long installation of railroad crossties, tracks, signals and other rail work in the middle of the roundabout. Because of this construction, the traffic pattern at the roundabout will change to a four-way stop -- starting at 7 a.m. on February 26 -- instead of the current “yield to traffic” roundabout pattern.

Stop signs and temporary signage will alert vehicular and other traffic of the new temporary traffic plan. Traffic exiting the U.S. 101 highway at the Central Healdsburg Avenue and driving north will stop at the stop sign at the roundabout. Traffic heading east and west on West Mill Street will also have a stop sign, as will Vine Street and Healdsburg Avenue for vehicular and other traffic heading south from downtown. East Mill Street remains closed.

“The good news is that we are making a good amount progress on the roundabout,” said Healdsburg Public Works Director Larry Zimmer. “The installation of the railroad will be a major milestone in this construction project.”

This four-way stop pattern is part of “Stage I” of the railroad construction work, in which track will be laid from the south to the middle of the roundabout. Stage I will continue for at least several weeks. In mid-late March, the traffic plan will again change temporarily for “Stage II,” in which track will be laid from the middle to north of the roundabout. An update on the Stage II traffic flow plan will be provided next week.
