Volunteer Program

Volunteers raking leaves

The Healdsburg City Council has approved a much-needed volunteer program to address the top areas of concern for older adults: transportation, housing and home maintenance.

The City of Healdsburg volunteer program is a multifaceted program that captures the generous spirit of Healdsburg. It provides volunteers an opportunity to give back to their community in many ways, including a volunteer-driver program for seniors, a home-maintenance program, shared-housing opportunities in partnership with SHARE Sonoma County, and supporting the many existing volunteer opportunities within the community.

For detailed information on the program, check out this informational presentation from the February 19, 2019, City Council meeting.

Would you like to volunteer? Opportunities are structured for all community members, from youth to those who have retired. Please fill out our Volunteer Application and submit it to Volunteer Coordinator Donna O'Brien at the Senior Center, dobrien@cityofhealdsburg.org or 707-431-3492.

The Volunteer Driving Program is scheduled to launch as a pilot program in the spring of 2019. This program will be a way for seniors who no can longer drive to remain engaged in the community and thrive. The program is in the final stages of development and is currently seeking volunteer drivers. Anyone interested in volunteering can attend an informational meeting on February 20th from 3 - 4 p.m. at the Senior Center.

SHARE Healdsburg

Home shares are living arrangements between two or more unrelated people, one of whom is 60 years of age or older, who agree to share a home or apartment for their mutual benefit. The first in a series of educational forums on the program are scheduled for 11 a.m., February 19, and 6 p.m., February 20, at the Senior Center. SHARE Healdsburg is set to launch on March 1.

Later in 2019, we will launch a home-maintenance program to assist with home upkeep so enable seniors can age gracefully in their homes. Volunteers with special skills are sought as well as helpful volunteers
